8-Day Journey of Culture, Nature & Self-Discovery
Sulawesi Marine Quest Camp is an extraordinary camp designed to give ample time for campers themselves in one of the world’s most amazing coastal landscapes, exploring the underwater ecosystem whilst learning about colourful local Indonesian culture, building authentic relationships with the local community, and building resiliency in the outdoors.
During the camp, our dedicated facilitators will provide campers with genuine support to challenge themselves to enhance their environmental and cultural awareness and survival skills, whilst building lifetime memories.
Please make sure you arrive at the Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar, South Sulawesi, and we will pick you up.
DAY 1, Arrival & Orientation: “Welcome to Ara”
- Theme: Connection & Curiosity
- Daily Outline: Our shared journey begins by watching the landscape shift from urban coastlines to rural fishing villages during the drive from Makassar to Ara. After an early dinner en route, participants will check into the Pajoka beachfront villa to rest and prepare for the week ahead
- Learning Objectives: 1) Build group trust and orient to surroundings, 2) Set personal and collective intentions
DAY 2, Nature Immersion: “Roots & Resilience”
- Theme: Deep Ecology & Awareness
- Daily Outline: Campers will begin to see nature as a living system through intention-setting ceremonies, community agreement workshops, and guided explorations of the beach village and caves. The day concludes with a nature journaling workshop, followed by a sunset dinner, campfire storytelling, and a deep reflection circle.

DAY3, Island Exploration: “The Underwater Ecosystem”
- Theme: What’s Underwater?
- Daily Outline: A boat journey to Liukang Island introduces campers to vibrant reef systems through guided snorkelling, reef identification, and a coral health talk. After a beachside picnic and traditional weaving workshop, the group will practice survival skills like shelter building and foraging before an evening of crab hunting.
- Learning Objectives: 1) Explore the power and fragility of coral reefs, 2) Engage with local knowledge and learn traditional skills
DAY 4, Cultural Immersion: “Hands of Heritage”
- Theme: The Sulawesi Maritime Heritage
- Daily Outline: This physically and mentally stretching day pushes campers to build their own bamboo rafts and navigate a “Web of Life” simulation game. Following a village trek to Apparalang Cliff for snorkelling and a beach cleanup, the group will gather for a guided evening reflection on fear, courage, and growth.

DAY 5, Adventure Day: “Challenge & Courage”
- Theme: Resilience, Leadership, Teamwork
- Daily Outline: Participants will immerse themselves in Ara’s maritime heritage by visiting a traditional market for a “Masterchefs Challenge” and learning ancient Phinisi boat-building techniques. The cultural exchange continues into the afternoon with driftwood art and local youth games, culminating in an evening of music, dance, and shared performances.

DAY 6, Social Impact & Service: “Giving Back”
- Theme: Community Connection
- Daily Outline: Campers shift from learners to active contributors by participating in a snorkeling coral restoration workshop and leading a group service project. In the afternoon, participants will step into leadership roles to mentor local children through play, finishing the day with beach time and an entertaining talent show.

DAY 7, Integration & Celebration: “Honouring the Journey”
- Theme: Reflection, Expression, Celebration
- Daily Outline: The final full day focuses on reflection and expression, featuring a sunrise solo sit, nature journaling, and creative camper presentations about their week. Following an acknowledgement circle and a farewell celebration with the local community, the group will gather around a final bonfire under the stars to reflect on what they will take home.

DAY 8, Departure: “Carry It Forward”
- Theme: Closure & Continuation
- Daily Outline: Campers will prepare for their journey home through morning movement, a thank-you meditation, and writing reflection letters to themselves and the group. After a final circle of affirmations, the group will depart with care kits for the drive back to the Makassar International Airport.
- Learning Objectives: 1) Find closure and say meaningful goodbyes, 2) Prepare mentally for re-entry into daily life
